Thursday Tip - El consejo del jueves

Hi ladies, most of the questions I am asked lately are regarding the eyes (Leonor, I do not forget about the smoky eyes!) so let´s go with some tips to make the best of our eyes.
The key to the art of  eye make up application is being able to successfully create illusions. Any “faults” you perceive – although other people may not regard them as such- can be minimized, and the illusion of more beautiful and youthful, bright,  eyes can be created. No matter if you feel your eyes are too small, or too big, too round etc. They all can get pretty by applying some make up properly.
The two basic techniques used to enhance the eyes´s natural shape (as for the rest of the face) are highlighting and shading. Always have in mind a basic rule: light brings an area forward and makes it appear larger or more prominent, while dark makes an area recede, or appear smaller and less prominent. To create such illusion, we will have to work with light and dark together.
Today I will try to explain how to make up your eyes depending on your eyelid shape.  The first thing to do is to examine the shape of your eyes and eyelids. Everybody can start applying highlighter (this is a light colour eye shadow) to the browbone just below the eyebrow, but when it comes to the eyelid, we will have to make a choice.
Depending on the amount of visible eyelid, you will decide wether to highlight or shade your lid.
Look at yourself in the mirror and study your eyes.

If your eyes resemble picture 1 in shape, then you have little or no visible eyelid. In this case you want to create the illusion of there being more eyelid. You should then  apply hightlighter on the lid to bring it forward and make it more prominent. You will shade only the crease of the eye, taking the  shading colour outwards to join the outside corner of the eye. You will highlight below the eyebrow too.

If your are look like the eyes in picture 2, then you will want to create the illusion of there being less visible eyelid, or of it being less protruding or puffy. Shade the lid as well as the crease of the eye. You should apply highlighter only below the eyebrow.

If your eyes most closely resemble picture 3 in shape, you are lucky to have the choice of either highlighting or shading the lid  area. You will still be shading the crease of the eye, and applying highlighter under the eyebrow.

What about you? Have you decided if highlighting or shading your eyelid?

I hope that you liked this tip and that it is useful!
