I am opening this new section “Reviews” in the blog with a product I fell in love about 4 months ago…It is the Double Wear Stay-in Place Foundation by Estee Lauder.
First of all I have to say that this product is not for everybody. If your skin is dry, very dry or almost perfect, smooth and with no imperfections, then maybe you prefer a lighter foundation than this one revising here today.
The main characteristic of the Double Wear Foundation is that it is long lasting. They promise 15 hours staying power, and I can assure you that it lasts at least 12 ó 13 hours without needing touch ups.
I have combination skin, it used to be oily when I was younger (still young though, ha!) and tending to break out. With the pass of the time it is now oily in the T zone and normal or sometimes dehydrated in the rest of the face. Anyway, my problem with make up was always the same: the hated shines, the make up melting effect after a couple of hours it was applied.
Well, this foundation last all day on my skin, even if I am not using powder to set it. So it is approved!
The Double Wear is presented as a foundation with medium coverage, even though I think it has medium-full coverage. It is, at the moment, the foundation with higher coverage I have ever tried. It is oil free, with a matt finish and quite thick. For these, I recommend that, apart from using a good moisturiser before applying your foundation, you should use only a bit of product and blend it well, as it dries very quickly.
If you usually apply your make by spotting it over your face, I would not recommend to do so with this product. Apply only a little on an area and blend it well before applying it to another area of your face.
Another advantage of this foundation is that it can have a natural effect if you use only a small amount of product and you blend it well, or either you can achieve higher coverage by applying a second coat, but always remember to blend it well, otherwise it is easy to get a streaky look especially at your jawline and neck, this is the big forgotten, our neck!
For a lighter finish you can use a shunk brush (a duo fibre brush) to blend the product, or either you can mix the foundation with your moisturiser to make it lighter and give a more sheer look. If instead you like a high good coverage, like myself, you can apply it with your foundation flat brush with synthetic hair.
However , as I said before, this foundation has an audience. If you prefer a lighter foundation, then you could try the light one from the same line, double wear light by Estee Lauder, that as you can imagine from the name, it is lighter.
The Double wear foundation has an SPF 10. For me this is more a disadvantage. It is difficult to find foundations in the market free of SPF. As you know, the SPF protects us from the UV, but also reflects the light, that is why it is not the most recommended for photography, unless you want to look like having a white mask on, especially when using the flash!That is why I think that we should have the option of using a foundation with or without SPF. If we are going partying at night time we do not really mind wearing sun protection but we want to look good in the pictures!
The only foundation I have tried at the moment without SPF is the HD by Make Up Forever. With a medium coverage is a pro base lighter than the Double Wear.
Illamasqua is promoting these days the launch of a new foundation SPF free, saying that it has good coverage. I write it down, do not want to miss it!
Regarding the color selection, there is a wide range of colours. I have noticed that some shades vary from one country to another, but there are a minimum of 12 shades, and for cool, neutral and warm undertones.Always keep in mind when trying a new foundation, to do so on your clean skin (with no make up on), draw a line on the jawline and blend it. If it melts with your skin tone, that is shade you have to go for.
Regarding the package, it comes in a frosted bottle with no pump. You will end using more product with this type of packaging as it is no easy to manage the amount you use. If you do not like it, you can buy a pump from mac, they fit perfectly. The bottle contains 30 ml and the price, as far as I remember (sorry I am not sure) it was around 32 euro in Ireland
Always remember to remove your make up before going to bed so it won´t clog your pores and make you break out. Our skin has to rest and regenerate during the night time. As this is a long lasting foundation, a light make up remover could be insufficient. Estee Lauder has a make up remover from the same line, Take it away total make up remover. It is good, and really removes any trace of make up.
Sorry I am talking a lot…just in a few words: This is a recommended product if you have oily or combination skin and it tends to shine too much, if you are fan of a good high coverage and not having to touch up every couple of hours, and if you like a matt finish. This foundation will last on you all day, resists to heat, humidity and perspiration, so it is perfect for a busy woman that needs her make up to stay put! It does not transfer onto clothing (I hate wearing a shirt and realising after a while that part of my make up is all over the shirt neck!)If this is not your case…do not worry, we will review other products that you might feel like give them a try.

Hoy voy a abrir esta nueva seccion de “Reviews” en el blog con un producto del que me enamore hace unos 4 meses. Es la base de maquillaje Double Wear Stay-in-place de Estee Lauder.
Lo primero que quiero comentaros, es que este producto no es para todas. Si tu piel es muy seca, o casi perfecta, tersa y sin imperfecciones, es posible que tu base de maquillaje preferida sea más ligera que la que hoy vamos a desmigar aquí.
La característica principal de la Double Wear es que es de larga duración. Prometen 15 horas de maquillaje impecable, y os aseguro que a mí me aguanta por lo menos 12 ó 13 horas sin necesidad de retoques.
Yo tengo la piel mixta, solía tenerla grasa cuando era más joven, y con una inevitable tendencia a los granitos. Con la edad se me ha hecho mixta, grasa en la zona T y normal (a veces deshidratada) en el resto. De todos modos, mi problema con el maquillaje ha sido siempre el mismo: los odiados brillos y esa sensación de maquillaje derretido tras un par de horas desde su aplicación.
Pues bien, esta base me dura todo el día, incluso sin aplicarme polvos para matizar. Por tanto, prueba superada!
La Double Wear se presenta como una base de maquillaje con cobertura media, aunque yo diría que es alta, y es, de momento, la base con más cobertura que he probado. No contiene aceites, tiene un acabado mate, y es bastante densa, por ello os aconsejo, aparte de utilizar una buena hidratante primero, aplicar poco producto y difuminarlo rápidamente, porque seca muy rápido.
Si te sueles aplicar el maquillaje depositando puntitos del mismo en las distintas zonas de la cara, no te aconsejo que lo hagas con esta base. Aplica un poco de producto en una zona y difumínalo bien, antes de pasar a otra zona de la cara.
Otra ventaja de esta base es que puede tener un efecto natural si te aplicas poca cantidad y la difuminas bien, o puedes hacerla más cubriente añadiendo una segunda capa, pero recuerda difuminar siempre bien, sobretodo en la zona de las mandíbulas y cuello, que a veces es el gran olvidado.
Para conseguir un acabado más ligero puedes utilizar una brocha tipo mofeta para extenderlo, o bien una esponjita previamente humedecida con agua. Incluso puedes mezclar la base de maquillaje con tu hidratante para un resultado más ligero y menos mate. Si en cambio, como yo, prefieres una buena cobertura, utiliza una brocha plana de pelo sintético, típica para aplicar el maquillaje líquido.
De todos modos, como he dicho antes, esta base de maquillaje tiene su público. Y si lo que prefieres es una base más ligera, te aconsejo que pruebes la light de la misma línea, doublewear light de EsteeLauder, que como la palabra indica, es más ligera.
La DoubleWear lleva un SPF 10. Para mí esto es más un inconveniente que una ventaja. Aunque es difícil encontrar bases de maquillaje en el mercado libres de SPF. Como sabeis, el SPF nos protege de los rayos solares, pero también refleja la luz, y de ahí que no sea el maquillaje más apto para fotografía, si no queremos aparecer en las fotos como si lleváramos una máscara blanca.
Por eso yo creo que deberían darnos la opción de usar maquillaje con SPF o no, porque para acudir a una fiesta por la noche no necesitamos protección solar, y en cambio, queremos salir monísimas en las fotos!
Actualmente la única base de maquillaje que yo he probado libre de SPF es la HD de Make Up Forever. Con cobertura media es una base profesional más ligera que la DoubleWear.
Illamasqua está anunciando estos días el lanzamiento de una base libre de SPF también, y dicen que cubre bastante. Ésta me la anoto para que no se me pase!
En cuanto a los tonos, hay bastante variedad. Yo he comprobado que algunos tonos son estándar y otros varían de país a país, pero hay un mínimo de 12 tonos, y tanto para pieles con base rosada, amarilla o neutra.
Ten en cuenta que para probar el tono que va mejor a tu piel debes hacerlo sobre la piel natural (desmaquillada), haz una pequeña línea en un lado de la cara, arriba de la mandíbula, y difumínala. Si se funde con tu piel, ese es tu tono.
En cuanto al envase, viene en un tarrito de cristal sin dosificador, por lo que se gasta generalmente más producto si no lo viertes con cuidado. Si no te gusta puedes comprar un dosificador de mac, que funciona perfectamente con este tarrito.
La cantidad de producto son 30 ml y el precio, en Irlanda, así de memoria (siento no recordarlo muy bien) está sobre los 32 euros.
Recuerda que hay que desmaquillarse bien por la noche, hay que dejar que la piel descanse y se regenere durante la noche, y para ello hay que eliminar restos de maquillaje, siempre. Así evitarás que se obstruyan los poros y se produzcan granitos. Al ser un producto de larga duración, un desmaquillador muy suave podría no ser efectivo. EsteeLauder tiene el desmaquillador de la misma línea, el Take it away, total make up remover. También recomendable este desmaquillador en leche, es muy efectivo.
Anda que no me enrollo…resumiendo: Producto muy recomendable si tienes la piel grasa o mixta con problema de brillos, y te gusta una buena cobertura y no tener que retocarte cada par de horas. Esta base de maquillaje te durará todo el día, aguantando tu ritmo, el calor etc como una campeona, y sin manchar tu ropa (odio ponerme una camisa y descubrir un ratito más tarde los cuellos manchados de maquillaje). Si este no es tu caso…ya comentaremos otros productos que igual sí te apetece probar,
