Safe Make Up- Maquíllate sin riesgos

Today I come with some thoughts and advice on hygiene when it comes to make up. Yesterday I had a make up bridal trial, so I met one of my brides for this year (whose wedding will take place in June), to define and try the look for her Big day. 

When we were talking about eyelashes and the possibility of applying some “individual” ones at the outer corner of the eyes, which open the eyes naturally, she said that she thought to be allergic to the glue tabs. A few months ago at the wedding of her sister, the make up artist applied some eyelashes on her and she had a bad reaction. It was a disaster as she had to wash her eyes and the make up had to be reapplied. Of course she could not remember which glue was used, so we agreed that I would try my Due glue, and if it caused her reaction we would then forget about lashes on the Wedding day and beyond.

Well, I applied the few eyelashes and it was perfect, no tears, no reactions. She said then that she was thinking that maybe this was not the problem that caused the reaction months before. She was very surprised that I was using disposable applicators to apply the mascara, and she had never seen that before (??). 

What can I say…I was amazed. This is the first thing you learn when you study make up in College, and it is impossible to pass the Itec exam if you do not show an impeccable hygiene throughout the whole make up application. 

Why would someone who spends thousands of euro in a make up kit not use a few euro to buy disposable applicators? 

How could someone called themselves professional if they are risking the health of their clients? 

The use of disposable applicators to apply mascara on is absolutely necessary. One for each eye, since once the applicator is used on an eye, you cannot use it again to pick up additional product. This is the only way to prevent nasty eye infections from double dipping leading to cross-contamination. A bad usage can really ruin your day, and eye infection spreads very easy if we do not take precautions. Look at it this way, would you share your toothbrush with strangers? Not exactly…then, do not use one same applicator for several people. 

Hygiene must be maintained in all products, but in the case of products that are applied with a brush, we will clean the brushes after each use. In the case of the wands, they have to be disposable in every case. 

Be careful when you test products in a cosmetics shop, and always ask for a disposable applicator. If you hire a make up artist , whether for your wedding or any special occasion, make sure they meet the standards of hygiene and health. For those who are just starting in this amazing area, make up, there are disposable applicators for all tastes and budgets. There is a wide variety of wands (small, large, curved, oval, straight), different materials (bristle and rubber) and easy to get at retail distributors of beauty products or on the internet. Do not take the risk and enjoy make up while taking care of your health!

Hoy vengo con una reflexión y consejo sobre la higiene a la hora de maquillarnos (o que nos maquillen). 

Ayer tuve una prueba de novia, es decir, conocí a una de mis novias de este año (se casa en Junio) para decidir y brobar el look que lucirá el día de su boda.  Cuando salió el tema de aplicar algunas pestañas individuales en la parte externa del ojo, que abre la mirada sin notarse para nada artificial, me comentó que creía que era alérgica al pegamento de pestañas. Hace unos meses, para la boda de su hermana, la maquilladora le aplicó unas pestañas postizas que le hicieron reacción. Fue un desastre, porque le empezaron a llorar los ojos y tuvo que lavárselos y volver a maquillar. No recordaba el pegamento que usaron entonces (normal), así que quedamos que probaríamos con mi pegamento Duo, y si le causaba reacción pues ya descartaríamos las pestañas para la boda y en adelante. 

Pues bien, le apliqué las pestañas y todo perfecto, sin lágrimas, sin reacciones. Entonces me comentó que estaba pensando que igual no eran las pestañas o el pegamento lo que le había causado la reacción meses atrás. Me dijo que le había sorprendido mucho que yo usara aplicadores desechables para aplicar la máscara de pestañas, que nunca antes lo había visto (??).

Qué voy a deciros...me quedé alucinada. Es lo primero que aprendes en el College cuando estudias maquillaje, es imposible pasar el examen de Itec sin una higiene impecable.

¿Cómo es posible que alguien que invierte miles de euros en un kit de maquillaje no pueda emplear unos pocos euros en comprar aplicadores desechables? ¿que alguien que se dedique profesionalmente al maquillaje ponga en riesgo la salud de sus clientas?

Usar aplicadores desechables para aplicar la máscara de pestañas es absolutamente necesario. Hay que usar uno para cada ojo, ya que una vez el aplicador se emplea en un ojo, no podemos usarlo de nuevo para coger más producto. Es la única manera de evitar contagios, bacterias, infecciones...Un mal uso puede realmente arruinarte el día, y en los ojos se contagia facilísimo si no tomamos precauciones.

Mirémoslo así, ¿compartirías tu cepillo de dientes con desconocidos? No...pues exactamente igual, no debe usarse un mismo aplicador para varias personas.

Hay que mantener la higiene en todos los productos, pero en el caso de productos que se aplican con pinceles, los limpiaremos bien después de cada uso. En el caso de las pestañas hay que usar aplicadores desechables, sí o sí.

Tened cuidado cuando probéis productos en las perfumerías y tiendas de cosméticos, pedir siempre un aplicador desechable.

Si contratais a una maquilladora, sea para vuestra boda o cualquier ocasión especial, por favor aseguraros de que cumple las normas de higiene y no pone en riesgo vuestra salud.

Para las que estais empezando en este sector, hay aplicadores desechables para todos los gustos y bolsillos. Hay una inmensa variedad, formas (más pequeños, grandes, curvos, ovalados, rectos), de distintos materiales (cerdas, silicona...) y la posibilidad de adquirirlos tanto en tiendas distribuidoras de productos de belleza como por internet.

No te la juegues...y disfruta el maquillaje cuidando tu salud.
